Is Simple Webstats GDPR/PECR/CCPA Compliant?

Simple Webstats has been designed with user privacy in mind. It stores no cookies or other data on the users device, and collects no personal data or personally identifiable information from users. Data is stored in your own WordPress database rather than being sent to third parties, and is owned by you. The data that is stored can only be referenced to a randomly-hashed string of characters, not to a user, and these hashes change regularly.

The plugin does not set any cookies or use any other means of persistently identifying users.

We are developers rather than lawyers, but it is our understanding that this approach is compliant with all of the various different privacy regulations such as GDPR and PECR. This should not be taken as legal advice, however if any lawyers would like to audit our approach we would welcome the opportunity.

Do I need to display a cookie warning?

Simple Webstats does not use cookies, so requires no cookie notices or user consent dialogs.

Your site may use cookies for other purposes, in which case you should present users with appropriate information and controls.

What third party services does Simple Webstats use?

This plugin uses the country.is geolocation API to enable you to see visitor data by country. Requests are not logged and no personal data is collected. For more information please refer to the country.is documentation.

To identify types of browsers and devices, Simple Webstats uses the excellent DeviceDetector library.
